Texans on Mission is deploying to Nepal to assist emergency officials and residents in the region after catastrophic flooding Aug. 26.
The death toll from the flooding in Nepal rose to 955 with more than 4,400 people reported missing, including 80 Americans, according to ABC News.
Aimee Freston, director of communications for Texans on Mission, said deployment teams are stretched far and wide in the wake of recent events such as the Ross Fire.
“A highly specialized and experienced team is headed to Nepal to jumpstart relief efforts there following the devastating floods,” Freston said.
“They will meet the most critical needs right now: mass feeding and water filtration. They are also providing cookware to continue feeding efforts beyond initial relief efforts and mobilizing local people and churches to help their own communities.”
The United Nations determined 65,000 people will require water, sanitation, and hygiene support, and more than 22,000 children will need protection, a UN spokesperson told ABC News.
Travel to the affected region is not recommended, and caution is advised because of civil unrest, according to the U.S. Embassy.
