Wayland Baptist University is holding a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Wayland Prayer Garden at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 2, at the Brown Family Conference Center. The garden, which will be located just east of the conference center, is designed to provide a quiet place for prayer and reflection on the Plainview campus. Plans incorporate native, drought-tolerant plants and water-conserving landscape features to create a peaceful and sustainable greenspace. The groundbreaking is open to the public and will include comments about the vision for the garden, an overview of its design and construction timeline, the ceremonial groundbreaking, and a prayer of blessing and dedication. The Prayer Garden is being made possible through gifts from Wayland’s Sally Society, Ralph and Betty Boone, and a special grant from the High Plains Underground Water District.
