First Baptist Church in Hondo has seen renewed excitement around baptisms after adopting a three-week celebration that highlights each person’s testimony and baptism. The church has already seen seven individuals come forward for baptism under the new emphasis. Rather than recognizing baptisms during a single service, the church announces an upcoming baptism one week, celebrates it with the individual’s recorded testimony the next, and then shares the testimony and baptism again the following week. Pastor Mike Vasquez—in an interview with Teresa Young for Texas Baptists Communications—said the extended celebration has helped build anticipation, encouraged the congregation, and reminded members of their own faith journeys, creating greater joy each time the church celebrates a life changed through Christ.
