Rio Grande Valley: God’s word never returns void

The Baptist Student Ministry at the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley held its fall retreat at South Padre Island. It provided students a weekend to get away from school and enjoy fellowship with other students from the BSM.

alexandra granda130Alexandra GrandaWe had a good group of students at the event, including some international students. Many of them were exposed to Christian fellowship for the first time, and seeing them interact with our BSM leaders was interested.

One of the international girls who attended the retreat is an Indian student. I met her a year ago. In the past, we have had spiritual conversations that led to nothing every time. She almost always avoids the topic of Jesus, and I became frustrated with trying to share my faith with her. Every time I tried, it felt like she wasn’t listening or wasn’t interested in what I had to say about Jesus.

She is a very religious person who practices Hinduism, and she has been refusing conversations about God. However, God has been changing her heart, and I was reminded that God’s word never returns void (Isaiah 55:11). beachretreat riogrande425She has been attending Christian fellowships lately and she has attended church with me for two weeks now.

Most recently, she asked for prayer for her future job after graduation. This was the first time she asked for prayer, and I hope that she keeps asking for prayers and for clarity on her spirituality.  Pray she will continue to ask questions. Pray she will see a difference in the Christian community. Pray that the Lord reveals himself to her in dreams. Pray that God keeps putting people in her life to lead her to the truth.
