If a Baptist entity’s behavior violated its stated and published core beliefs, which should it change—its behavior or its core beliefs?
I’m interested because LifeWay Christian Resources of the Southern Baptist Convention published as a core belief: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
After its mistreatment of Glorieta leaseholders, LifeWay leaders were questioned by many, including me, “Why are you violating your core beliefs?” They never responded to me or the others, but the core beliefs page was deleted from their website.
Is this the way a Baptist entity should act? If not, Southern Baptists should call them to task. Many of us leaseholders are still waiting for a decision from the U.S. judge to see if our lawsuit against LifeWay and Glorieta will be allowed to go to jury trial.
