During his teenage years at First Baptist Church in Joshua, Sherman developed a passion for music while leading worship for his youth group. His desire to minister through music only increased during his college years at Dallas Baptist University.
After graduation, Sherman wanted to pursue a full-time career in music and traveled to Nashville to look at options. However, he began to realize God had other plans in store and valuable lessons to teach him.
“Five years ago, I pushed pretty hard to do my own thing as a singer/songwriter,” Sherman said. “I used my own money for a flight to Nashville, hoping I could get anything going as a recording musician, but every well I approached would dry up. It clearly wasn’t the right time then.”
As Sherman sought God’s guidance and direction, he received an invitation to lead worship on a regular basis for the Fort Worth campus of a multisite evangelical church.

“I don’t know that I’ve ever specifically felt God calling me to be a worship leader, but he has repeatedly placed me in that position,” Sherman said. “There’s always been an ember burning, a drive to minister to people in my life and doors have kept opening for me to do that through leading worship.”
Following a worship service in 2010, Bob and Janice Simpson, owners of the Texas Rangers, approached Sherman about the possibility of making a record. Sherman still remembers chuckling after the conversation, not expecting anything to come from it.
However, as God opened doors, Sherman became the flagship artist on the Simpson’s brand-new label, RayLynn Records, created specifically to serve as a launch pad for breakthrough artists who desire to share the gospel through music.

“I hope that people who don’t know Christ as the Savior yet will find the album inviting and a place where they can find some hope,” Sherman said. “Music affects people’s hearts in a way that spoken words can’t, so I would love for these songs to spark conversations and open doors to share the gospel.
“I pray that believers can connect to the songs, and it will remind them that we are all on this journey together. We are not alone in our struggles. Whether you’ve been a Christian for a long time or short time, we all have things we need to surrender to the Lord.”
