DALLAS—Carolyn Porterfield, who has served Woman’s Missionary Union of Texas in a variety of roles over more than two decades, will lead the organization as interim executive director-treasurer.
“Our executive committee after much prayer felt led to ask Carolyn to serve as our interim executive director-treasurer,” said Shirley McDonald, president of Texas WMU.
“She is familiar with what the organization already has in place, and we believe it will make for a smooth transition. We are thrilled that she graciously agreed to serve while the search committee does its work.”
Porterfield assumes responsibilities previously carried out by Sandy Wisdom-Martin. The national WMU executive board unanimously elected Wisdom-Martin as executive-director treasurer at a called meeting in Birmingham, Ala., July 29-30. She assumes her new responsibilities Oct. 15.
Most recently, Porterfield has worked as Texas WMU missional lifestyle strategist for adults and multicultural groups. She previously served the organization as executive director-treasurer from 2001 to 2007.
The Texas WMU board’s personnel committee will serve as a search committee to find Wisdom-Martin’s successor as executive director-treasurer.
The committee—four board members, plus the president and interim executive director-treasurer as ex-officio members—held its initial organizational meeting, McDonald said. Soon, the committee will establish its procedures for receiving nominations and accepting resumes, she noted.
