MESQUITE—Mimosa Lane Baptist Church in Mesquite spent 40 days intentionally blessing its community this fall.

Pastor Rocky Pope challenged his congregation to bless those with whom they came into contact in personal and practical ways.

Pope not only gave the congregation a 40-day prayer guide to keep them focused on blessing the community, but the church also scheduled a series of events to provide some avenues for action.

“I wanted them to be engaged with God’s word in regard to his blessings,” Pope explained, realizing that blessed people want to pass that on.

During one of the planned activities, more than 300 members worked on the homes of 21 senior adults in the community.

Another ministry launched during the emphasis was Home Pointe, designed to provide training and resources for young families who want to improve their lives at home.

In addition, the church also held a blood drive with donations designated to a local school to use at its discretion, a food and clothing drive, a community festival, a choir concert and 100 Thanksgiving meals for families identified by the school district.

The church also hosted a meal at DFW International Airport for incoming troops from Iraq.

“We had done some of these events before, but packaging together put everyone on the same page,” said Executive Pastor Bob Cavin. “It blessed the people to bless others.”
