Grapevine firefighters were summoned to First Baptist Church about 9:30 p.m. Jan. 25 after janitorial staff noticed smoke pouring from the building.
When the first team arrived on the scene, no flames were visible at the time, but a second alarm was sounded so additional help would arrive on site to help clear the large building.
As the fire fighters searched and secured every part of the building, they found the smoke’s cause—a malfunctioning heater near the choir room. The heater was shut off before a fire was started.
The next day, staff opened doors and windows to air out the church building. No damage or injuries were reported because of the event.
