DALLAS—David Mahfouz, pastor of First Baptist Church in Warren, has stepped down from his position as chair of the BGCT’s executive director search committee.
The announcement was posted to the executive director search committee page of the Texas Baptists website in an update from the members of the search committee.
In the update, search committee members acknowledged Mahfouz’s contribution to the prospectus, position description and listening sessions.
Darin Wood, pastor of First Baptist Church in Midland and member of the search committee, expressed appreciation for Mahfouz’s leadership.
“With profound gratitude to Dr. David Mahfouz, his gracious spirit and shepherd’s heart, the search committee would like to express their appreciation for his service,” said Wood. “He has prepared the committee well for success, and we wish him God-speed in his future ministry service.”
Mahfouz last delivered an update to the BGCT executive board on Feb. 20. The board will now appoint a new chair of the search committee. The search committee’s next meeting is scheduled for Mar. 24.
Bobby Contreras, pastor of Alamo Heights Baptist Church in San Antonio and chair of the BGCT executive board, expressed his thanks and the board’s commitment to the task.
“We thank Dr. Mahfouz for his service and continue to remain fully committed to protecting the integrity of the search process,” said Contreras. “I have every confidence we are united and on the right track and that this search will yield just the right person God has prepared for such a time as this.”
