Family Ties aims to teach parenting skills and improve the socio-economic situations of families who live in the rural, southernmost area of Bexar County.
Auxiliary members have made sure children whose families participates in the program receive new toys and clothing for Christmas.
"Each of the ladies in our auxiliary is a marvelous role model for what it is to be Christ-like," said Ila Odom, president of the BCFS Auxiliary and member of First Baptist Church in San Antonio. "We all have an extra special place in our hearts for the children BCFS serves, and feel blessed to have the Lord work through us to meet these children's needs this Christmas."
One longtime auxiliary member, Anne Marie Howell of Trinity Baptist Church, noted: "The little boy I signed up to sponsor asked for dinosaurs this Christmas. I searched high and low for some 'big boy' dinosaur toys and can't wait to see his face when he opens his special gifts."
Since its launch in 2009, Family Ties has reached more than 1,000 families. The personalized program builds on families' existing strengths and educates parents about available community resources that will help meet their health and social service needs.
