  Mission projects precede CBF General Assembly in Memphis

  Thirteen teens from Open House Ministries, a CBF partner ministry that serves a poor area of Miami-Dade County, arrived the day before the CBF assembly in Memphis, Tenn., so they could serve at the Memphis Food Bank.The group was among more than 60 people who arrived before the General Assembly to serve at Memphis-area ministry sites.

  These are images from the flooding in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where floodwaters inundated 1,300 city blocks and displaced more than 26,000 people. Three Texas Baptist Men response units were dispatched to the Midwest by the Southern Baptist Convention North American Mission Board.

  Texas Baptist Men offer relief to Iowa flood victims

  Floodwaters that inundated 1,300 city blocks and displaced more than 26,000 people finally are receding from residential areas in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, leaving a thick layer of dark, staining mud and people looking for help and hope. That assistance has come through 71 Texas Baptists who arrived in Iowa prepared to serve people in need and share the hope of Christ in a place where it is desperately needed.

  Cowboy churches a movement of God, not just a fad

  About 125 cowboy churches are affiliated with the Baptist General Convention of Texas. They make up about 2 percent of BGCT congregations, but they performed roughly 10 percent of the baptisms last year.
