  Battles in the Texas State Board of Education over social studies textbooks really amount to a conflict over what kind of nation the United States was founded to be—and what it may become in the future, a nationally recognized authority on religious liberty issues told an interfaith gathering in Dallas.

  Three Southern Baptist churches were honored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency with the Energy Star Congregation Award. First Baptist Church in Dallas, First Baptist Church in Springdale, Ark., and Idlewild Baptist Church in Lutz, Fla., each earned recognition for their efforts at reducing energy consumption.

  In the wake of tragedy at  a mammoth Central Texas military post, Texas Baptists are helping people find comfort in Christ. Four chaplains endorsed by the Baptist General Convention of Texas are ministering directly to victims of the Nov. 5 shooting at Fort Hood that left 13 dead and 29 wounded.
