Obituary: William Joseph ‘Bill’ McMillin

William Joseph “Bill” McMillin, entrepreneur and ministry leader, died May 25, 2026. He was 86. He was born Oct. 2, 1939, in Houston, to Ted and Sarah McMillin. He graduated from Pasadena High School in 1958 and later earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Pacific Western University. He was a successful entrepreneur, building a career in men’s clothing, commercial real estate, and insurance. He also owned and operated the McMillin-Anderson Insurance Agency and the McMillin Insurance Agency. Though successful in business, ministry was closest to his heart. For the past 41 years, Bill served as minister of missions at South Main Baptist Church in Pasadena, where he oversaw a ministry including 22 mission churches located in apartment complexes, trailer parks, and private homes. He was involved in numerous civic and charitable organizations, including the Pasadena South Rotary Club and HOSTS, a mentoring program at Kruse Elementary School. He served on the boards of the YMCA, the Center for Counseling, the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce, and the City of Pasadena Tax Review Board. He also led teams ministering to individuals suffering from AIDS and Alzheimer’s disease, served as interim pastor for several area Baptist churches, and helped found an interdenominational food pantry. He also served on the Baptist General Convention of Texas Executive Board from 2017 to 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Sarah McMillin; his brother, Ted McMillin Jr.; his sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Bill McCord; their daughters, Sallyanna McCord Fisher and Sherelee McCord Davies; and his niece, Sarah Wagner. He is survived by his wife, Lydia McMillin; his daughter, Suzanne McMillin Scott and her husband, Scotty Scott; his son, Andrew McMillin and his wife, Kimberly McMillin; his sister, Margaret McMillin Wagner and her husband, Dave Wagner; his grandchildren, Davis Scott and his wife, Baylee; Madeleine Scott Channon and her husband, Case; Georgia Scott; Katie McMillin; and Elise Crockett and her husband, Ben; and his great-grandchildren, Sarah Scott, William Channon, Carolina Channon, and Anna-Scott Channon; and nieces, nephews, and extended family. A public visitation will be held May 28 at 5 p.m. at Rosewood Funeral Home in Pasadena. A funeral service will be held May 29 at 1 p.m. at South Main Baptist Church in Pasadena.
