Richard DuBroc Jr., longtime pastor of First Baptist Church of El Campo, died Aug. 17. He was 80. DuBroc was born July 8, 1946, in Fort Worth to Richard and Maxine Vallery DuBroc. His family moved frequently because of his father’s work in the oilfield, and he attended several grade schools before graduating from Liberty High School in 1964. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Baylor University and a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. In 1968, he married Larna Gregory in Victoria. Together, they served in pastoral ministry for more than five decades. DuBroc began his ministry at First Baptist Church of Ganado, where he served from 1971 to 1974. He then served as pastor of Central Baptist Church in Luling from 1974 to 1979. In 1979, DuBroc became pastor of First Baptist Church of El Campo, where he served for 42 years. He retired from the church in 2021 but continued preaching, performing weddings and funerals, and ministering to churches and families throughout the area. DuBroc was active in the El Campo community and was known for his interest in cattle, horses, hunting, fishing, leatherworking, reading history, and supporting the Ricebirds. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Larna Gregory DuBroc; sons, Richard Vaughn DuBroc and wife Tammy of El Campo, and Jon Charl DuBroc and wife Karen of Belton; brother, Larry Vaughn DuBroc and wife Ann of Richardson; grandchildren, Cheyenne and husband Elliot, Colt and wife Madison, Mirella and husband Clayton, and Cade, Daxon, and Charlyn; and great-grandchildren, Adeline, Kollyns, Broc, and Bennett. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Maxine Vallery DuBroc, and his in-laws, Durwood and Lauda Barnett Gregory. Visitation was held Aug. 21 at First Baptist Church of El Campo. A funeral service was held Aug. 22 at the church, followed by burial at Garden of Memories and a reception at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of El Campo Air Conditioning Fund.
