Harry B. Hunt Jr., longtime professor at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, died Jan. 19 in Longview. He was 76. Hunt was born on July 16, 1944, in Marshall to Harry Bass Hunt and Annie Beverly Ross Hunt. He graduated from Carthage High School with the class of 1962, and attended Stephen F. Austin State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1966. He married Patricia Lou Blackwell on Jan. 23, 1965, at Central Baptist Church in Carthage. Hunt earned a master’s degree and doctorate at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Arlington. Hunt was a professor of Old Testament and Semitic languages 26 years at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. He was a member of Central Baptist Church in Carthage. His brother Elvin Webster Hunt preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Pat Hunt of Gilmer; son, Doug Hunt and wife Chanthy of Gilmer; daughter, Amy Cunha and husband Russ of Carthage; three grandchildren and one more on the way.
