Bobby Glen Schmucker Jr. (Glen), who served as pastor of Cliff Temple Baptist Church in Dallas and in other pastoral roles, died July 29 in Fort Worth. He was 71. Born in Houston on Sept. 15, 1954, Schmucker graduated from Brownfield High School in 1972. From there, he attended Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in biblical studies and history. He went on to earn a Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. While in college and seminary, he began his ministry on staff as a youth minister at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church in Abilene, and then served as pastor of Forestburg Baptist Church in Forestburg. He later served as pastor of Sunray Baptist Church in the Texas Panhandle before being called as the founding pastor of Beltway Park Baptist Church in Abilene. In 1989, he left Texas to become pastor of First Baptist Church in Siloam Springs, Ark. He later relocated to Dallas, where he met and married Nancy Heerwald. The family made their home in Rockwall, and Schmucker reentered the ministry as senior pastor of Cliff Temple Baptist Church in Dallas, where he served for 10 years. He concluded his pastoral ministry at Grace Fellowship Baptist Church in Fair Oaks Ranch. After leaving the pastorate, he served for several years as a hospice chaplain. In retirement, he and Nancy lived in Fort Worth and were members of Broadway Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Schmucker; sons: Griffin Schmucker and Cameron Schmucker; grandchildren: McKinley, Lydia, Brayden, Isabella, and Parker; sisters: Darlene Schmitt and spouse, Phil, and Carol Evatt; nieces, Kelli Crocker and spouse, Garrett, and Billie Evatt; nephew, Mark Evatt and spouse, Megan; brothers-in-law, John Heerwald and Jim Heerwald; sister-in-law, Helen Carter and spouse, Pat; as well as nieces and nephews and their families on the Heerwald side. Visitation will be Thursday, Aug. 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. in Greenwood Funeral Home’s Memorial Suite D, 3344 White Settlement Road, Fort Worth, Texas 76107. A celebration of life will be held Friday, Aug. 14, at 10 a.m. at Broadway Baptist Church in Fort Worth. Interment will be Friday, Aug. 14, at 1:30 p.m. at Greenwood Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to ministries at Broadway Baptist Church in Fort Worth.
