GREENSBORO, N.C. (BP)—A North Carolina pastor says he is willing to be nominated as president of the SBC in Indianapolis next June.
Clint Pressley of Charlotte was asked about the possibility during a pastors’ gathering at the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina meeting on Nov. 6.
“I was asked a question about where I am at in my decision to run for SBC president, and I shared that at the moment I intend to allow my name to be presented,” Pressley told Baptist Press.
Pressley, senior pastor of Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Charlotte, says he is still in discussion with people interested in nominating him. He says a broader public announcement would happen in the future.
According to SBC Workspace, Hickory Grove reported $9,409,423 in total undesignated receipts in 2022. The church gave $162,971—2.75 percent of undesignated receipts—through the Cooperative Program, $258,757 to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering and $88,389 to the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering.
According to the church’s website, Pressley holds a bachelor’s degree from Wofford College, a Master of Divinity degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and is pursuing a Doctor of Ministry degree from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
He previously pastored Dauphin Way Baptist Church in Mobile, Ala., in addition to serving in two Mississippi churches. He is currently a trustee at Southern Seminary.
