  Dallas Baptist University awarded 466 degrees during its December commencement services. The McNeills, a Texas-based musical family, will present a concert at Heart of Texas Baptist Camp in Brownwood.

  Around the State: HPU students raise money for Go Now Missions; Baylor prof receives Grammy nominations

  Students at Howard Payne University raised more than $5,000 for Go Now Missions. A Baylor University professor of choral music received Grammy Award nominations for an album of compositions by a Holocaust victim. Bob Billups was named publisher of BaptistWay Press.

  Baylor University received a gift from David and Shirley Lake of Tyler to create the Lake Family Endowed Chair in Congregational and Community Health. Howard Payne University’s moot court team ended its fall 2017 season undefeated.

  Around the State: DBU honors Orville Rogers; ETBU athletes support Operation Christmas Child

  Dallas Baptist University presented the 2017 Russell H. Perry Free Enterprise Award to Orville Rogers, longtime volunteer missions pilot and 100-year-old fitness enthusiast. The East Texas Baptist University Athletic Department sponsored a wrapping party to prepare toy-filled shoeboxes donated to the Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child initiative.

  Around the State: UMHB joins in Reaching Out emphasis; Wayland San Antonio ministers in Sutherland Springs

  More than 300 volunteers from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor took part in the fall Reaching Out initiative. Wayland Baptist University San Antonio is responding to the mass shooting in Sutherland Springs. East Texas Baptist University is supplementing funds from the Baptist General Convention to make full-tuition scholarships available to qualified graduate students in the ETBU School of Christian Studies.

  Around the State: Missions emphasis at UMHB; TBM gears up for rebuild

  More than 40 missionaries led seminars and other events at University of Mary Hardin-Baylor during its annual Missions Emphasis Week. Texas Baptist Men disaster relief volunteers completed mass feeding operations in the wake of Hurricane Harvey after preparing more than 1.5 million meals, but volunteers will continue to cook for volunteers—particularly as TBM launches a rebuilding emphasis in Katy, Houston and Orange in the weeks ahead.

  More than 400 East Texas Baptist University students staffed fall festivals for three elementary schools, serving about 1,600 elementary students and their families. A “meet and greet” breakfast with Abe Jaquez, president of Baptist University of the Américas, is scheduled in conjunction with the Baptist General Convention of Texas annual meeting in Waco.

  East Texas Baptist University sent more than 40 students, faculty and staff to Southeast Texas to partner with First Baptist Church in Nederland, Texas Baptist Men and Baptist Men of North Carolina in providing disaster relief for survivors of Hurricane Harvey.
