Around the State: Wayland band members honored

Eleven Wayland band members were recognized for their outstanding accomplishments in music. Four were named to the 2015 Small College Intercollegiate Band with seven alternates. Eleven members of Wayland Baptist University’s Pioneer Band were named to the 2015 Small College Intercollegiate Band, topping the nation in the number of students selected (see photo above). WBU had four students named to the band, along with seven alternates.

Jerry Dailey, jerry dailey130Jerry Daileypastor of Macedonia Baptist Church in San Antonio, is a 2015 inductee into the San Antonio Black Worship Hall of Fame.

The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor set a record for spring enrollment with 3,463 students, up 171 students from last spring. Much of the increase is in international students. Four hundred seventy-six journeyed from 26 countries to attend UMHB this spring, compared to 302 last year. 

Howard Payne University students Isaac Sommers and Katie Rose Bonner advanced to the semifinals at the American Collegiate Moot Court Association national tournament. Sommers, a freshman from Boerne, placed third overall, while Bonner, a senior from Lytle, placed 13th. One hundred sixty speakers participated in the competition.

Dallas Baptist University launched a chapter of Omicron Delta Kappa, a national honor society that encourages leadership development among outstanding student leaders, with 18 members making up the inaugural class.

Normanna Baptist Church in Normanna, 125th, March 1. Former pastors will preach in the morning service. An afternoon service will follow a noon meal. Vernon Andrews is pastor.
