Around the State: Bone Collector speaks at Conroe banquet

 Michael Waddell, whose TV hunting show “The Bone Collector” airs weekly on the Outdoor Channel, was the keynote speaker for First Baptist Church in Conroe’s annual outdoor and sports banquet. More than 650 people attended the event.

Artwork from Howard Payne University faculty is on exhibit in the Dorothy and Wendell Mayes Gallery of the university’s Doakie Day Art Center through Oct. 18. Titled “Artists in Action,” the exhibition features collage, drawing, ink, painting, pastel and photographic techniques. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Baylor University announced the appointment of Dave Rosselli as vice president for university development, effective Nov. 1. He is executive director of institutional advancement at the University of Southern California.

East Texas Baptist University held a retirement reception to honor Eric Wilburn for 27 years of service to the university. He served 18 years as director of physical facilities. He remains pastor of DeBerry Baptist Church in DeBerry.

BCFS, formerly Baptist Child & Family Services, has named William Davenport director of its warehouse, fleet and technology resources for its emergency management division.

Anniversaries

Dan Wooldridge, 20th, as pastor of Crestview Baptist Church in Georgetown, Aug. 16.

First Baptist Church in Plainview, 125th, Sept. 26-27. In preparation for the anniversary, Wayland Baptist University President Paul Armes, and former pastors Travis Hart and Fred Meeks fill the pulpit the previous September Sunday mornings. Meeks will preach on “Celebrating His Goodness” Sept. 20. A picnic will be held at 6 p.m. Sept. 26. The Sept. 27 service—titled “Anticipating His Greatness”—will include remarks from Steve Vernon, associate executive director of the Baptist General Convention of Texas; Les Griffin, director of missions for the Caprock-Plains Baptist Area; and Plainview Mayor Wendell Dunlap. A meal will follow. Tim Marrow is pastor.
