Around the State: ETBU ‘Hymn Sing’ set

East Texas Baptist University will hold the fifth annual Great East Texas Hymn Sing Sept. 11 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Five leaders will each lead a 15-minute set of congregational hymns. etbu hymn sing300Leading the singing will be Aaron Perkins of Woodland Heights Baptist Church in Longview, Ronnie Simmons of Dell Dale Avenue Baptist Church in Channelview, Ronnie Stribble of First Baptist Church in Lindale, David Berryhill of First Baptist Church in Kilgore and ETBU director of alumni development Paul Tapp.  A reception will follow the singing. 

Anniversary

Jim Cleaveland, 10th, as minister of worship and media at First Baptist Church in El Paso.

Retiring

Fred Himstedt as minister of music at Ash Creek Baptist Church in Azle after 12 years of service. He previously served as minister of music at First Baptist Church in Darlington, N.C., and served as an International Mission Board missionary in Brazil.
