The Bible Is My Best Friend Bible Storybook

By Sheila Walsh and illustrated by Sarah Horne (B&H Kids)

Everyone loves a story, and best-selling author Sheila Walsh joins illustrator Sarah Horne to produce The Bible Is My Best Friend Bible Storybook. Targeted to ages 4-8, the hardcover volume offers a delightfully engaging take on 52 familiar Bible narratives.

The Bible Is My Best Friend Bible Storybook by Sheila WalshLiam and Emma, their humorous dogs, Charlie and Wilson, and wise friend Abby provide introductions, comments and memory verses. “Find it” images encourage children to connect graphics with concepts. Horne’s brightly colored illustrations cover every inch of the pages, adding realism and humor, as seen in a line-up of Esther’s eye-rolling competitors for queen.

Walsh selects 29 stories from the Old Testament and 23 from the New Testament. She begins with “God, the Great Creator” and concludes with Paul’s admonition in Thessalonians to “Stand Firm,” although a more relatable ending might be Paul’s letter to young Timothy. Material for parents bookends the title. The Bible Is My Best Friend Family Devotional: 52 Devotions for Families offers a supplemental companion to the Bible Storybook and vice versa.

Walsh and Horne’s Bible Storybook would be a great family present, children’s gift or church library addition. Adults and children alike will be enlightened by the stories, enthralled by the whimsical illustrations, and enriched by experiencing the Bible as best friend.
