Review: Imperfect Courage

Imperfect Courage

By Jessica Honegger (Waterbrook)

Author Jessica Honegger is the founder of Noonday Collection, a fair trade artisan-made fashion jewelry company. Her book, Imperfect Courage, takes readers on her journey of the birth and growth of the company.

The subtitle, “Live a life of purpose by leaving comfort and going scared,” describes Honegger’s own imperfect courage that pushed her not only to follow her dream into creating the world’s leading handmade, fair trade, direct sales company, but also the dream of adopting a young boy named Jack. The author recounts her experience navigating the adoption process in Rwanda. She does an excellent job pulling readers into her struggles and celebrations.

The book is divided into three sections. The first part focuses on looking at oneself, and the fears that hold women back. Part two addresses the importance of working together. The last section encourages women to seek courage and become everything they were designed to be. The author packs these chapters with subjects that speak to the heart of women—the need for collaboration, as well as the negative impact of comparing oneself to others and judging others.

Honegger introduces many interesting women, Noonday ambassadors, from around the world. Their stories inspire other women to step out of their comfort zone and follow their dream.

Honegger notes the name of her company came from her favorite childhood Bible verse: “If you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday” (Isaiah 58:10).

Imperfect Courage speaks to motherhood, international adoption and entrepreneurship. It truly offers encouragement for women.
