Michael Holster: Don’t Be a Loser (Galatians 5:1-12)

Michael Holster, pastor of Second Baptist Church in Levelland, opened with examples of moments when people felt like losers. He exhorted his hearers not to be losers, but to be winners in Jesus—which is not to be understood as a “name it and claim it” prosperity gospel. Paul’s instructions to the church in Galatia provide the right guidance.

Slavery to sin is a losing proposition. Those who find freedom in Christ will be winners; they must stand firm in the freedom of Christ. Likewise, to win, people must listen to and live in the truth; they must not listen to false teachers, who say a person loses everything who trusts only in Jesus.

Without Jesus, a person is a loser, Holster contended. With Jesus, a person is free.

This sermon was delivered June 27, 2021, for the morning worship service of Second Baptist Church in Levelland.
