Mark Kemp: Mercy and Grace (Hebrews 4:14-16)

Mark Kemp, senior pastor of First Baptist Church in Copperas Cove, encouraged his hearers to consider God’s attributes up close, rather than at a distance. He reminded them of the instruction in Hebrews 4:14-16 that Christians should approach God’s throne of grace with boldness. Christians can do this because of Jesus Christ’s work as great high priest and mediator.

Kemp described God’s mercy with reference to the Exodus account, in which God heard the Israelites’ misery and responded, and Jesus’ response to Bartimaeus’ plea. He described grace as God’s generosity toward the undeserving. God’s mercy and grace are “there for the taking” for those who will receive it.

This sermon was delivered May 9, 2021, for the morning worship service of First Baptist Church in Copperas Cove as part of a series titled Knowing God.
