Baptists Preaching is a column from the Baptist Standard. It is not an effort to advance any one theology or style but to present what a collection of Baptists considers a word from God. Likewise, Baptists Preaching offers a repository of Baptist preaching for future study and research. Rev. Jeremiah Parks: You Can’t Quit (Jeremiah 20:1-9)
Rev. Jeremiah Parks, a student at Baylor University’s Truett Theological Seminary, addresses the frustration of being faithful without seeing the fruit of our labors and the feeling of chasing something that seems unreal. He draws on Jeremiah’s experience—being beaten, put in stocks and feeling deceived by God—to give his hearers encouragement not to quit when they feel like giving up. The final illustration is worth listening to the entire sermon to hear.
This sermon was delivered on November 28, 2018, at Truett Seminary during the Community Gathering for Worship on the occasion of Rev. Parks’ being named one of Truett Seminary’s Fall 2018 Outstanding Student Preachers. The manuscript for this sermon is available here.
