Baptists Preaching is a column from the Baptist Standard. It is not an effort to advance any one theology or style but to present what a collection of Baptists considers a word from God. Likewise, Baptists Preaching offers a repository of Baptist preaching for future study and research. Jason Atchley: Hope for the Home (Judges 13-14)
Jason Atchley, lead pastor of Bacon Heights Baptist Church in Lubbock, Texas, and second vice president of the Baptist General Convention of Texas, reminds his hearers that spiritual parenting is not perfect parenting. Using a variety of sports metaphors, Atchley speaks to parents who, when they feel helpless—taking a puck to the mouth when children make choices running counter to the “way they were raised”—wonder what they can do. He provides straightforward and encouraging counsel.
This sermon was delivered during the morning worship service at Bacon Heights Baptist Church in Lubbock on March 24, 2019 as part of the Hope for the Home series. This series was designed to prepare the people of Bacon Heights for the Encounter weekend in April with Richard Ross.
