Rev. Dr. Hurley Clayton Jr.: Run Your Race | Baptists Preaching
Baptists Preaching is a column from the Baptist Standard. It is not an effort to advance any one theology or style but to present what a collection of Baptists considers a word from God. Likewise, Baptists Preaching offers a repository of Baptist preaching for future study and research. Rev. Dr. Hurley Clayton Jr.: Run Your Race! (Hebrews 12:1)
Rev. Dr. Hurley Clayton Jr., pastor of Berean Tabernacle Baptist in Liberty, Texas exhorts his hearers toward three characteristics: the sort of self-restraint an Olympic runner must show in order to prepare for the all-important race and to run that race in order to win; the self-restraint that is the intense discipline of a top athlete; and hardest of the three you’ll have to read the sermon to find. The manuscript for this sermon is available here.
This sermon was delivered during the morning worship service at Berean Tabernacle Baptist Church in Liberty, Texas, on March 5, 2017, as part of The Disciplined Life Series.
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. (Hebrews 12:1)
