Baptists Preaching is a column from the Baptist Standard. It is not an effort to advance any one theology or style but to present what a collection of Baptists considers a word from God. Likewise, Baptists Preaching offers a repository of Baptist preaching for future study and research. Brooks Kimmey: God is Willing … Are We? (Jonah 1:1-4)
Brooks Kimmey, pastor of First Baptist Church in Robinson, Texas, reads the sermon passage and then enters into a time of prayer with his congregation to set the tone for the sermon. Kimmey describes the Ninevites to whom God sent Jonah, emphasizing that despite their wickedness, God was willing to give them the opportunity to repent, sending Jonah for that purpose. Just as Jonah had a choice to go when God sent him to Nineveh, we have a choice to go when God sends us into the world. Will we do any different than Jonah?
This sermon was delivered on June 2, 2019 during the morning worship service of First Baptist Church in Robinson. It opened a summer series on Jonah.
