Baptists Preaching is a column from the Baptist Standard. It is not an effort to advance any one theology or style but to present what a collection of Baptists considers a word from God. Likewise, Baptists Preaching offers a repository of Baptist preaching for future study and research. Bobby Dagnel: Finding Peace in the Pandemic (Philippians 4:4-9)
Bobby Dagnel, senior pastor of First Baptist Church in Lubbock, Texas, spoke directly to the coronavirus pandemic during his sermon on Sun., Mar. 22. He likened the protocols related to the pandemic to an exile similar to the one Jeremiah addressed (Jeremiah 29).
From Paul’s own exile in a Roman prison, Dagnel exhorted the people of First Baptist Lubbock to have a prayerful, cognitive and active response during the pandemic. The most unsettling pandemic isn’t the one caused by a virus, but the one revealed by fear, Dagnel said. His hope is for those listening and watching to follow Christ in such a way that their presence would be ground zero for a pandemic of peace.
This sermon was live-streamed on Mar. 22, 2020, during the morning worship service hour at First Baptist Church in Lubbock.
