Travis Avenue Church in Fort Worth and Riverbend Retreat Center have dedicated a new family lodge at the camp to Joe and Tomi Lenamon. The 3,800-square-foot log building, given as a gift from the church to the camp, has four private rooms, a loft bedroom with five bunk beds, a full kitchen and dining area, and two gathering areas, including a great room with a fireplace. The construction was done by Texas Baptist Men, Campers on Mission, SOWERS and local church groups. The Lenamons are longtime members of the church, and he has served on the camp committee and now board of directors of the camp for 32 of the 38 years it has been in existence. Around the State

The Judson History & Legacy By Rosalie Hall Hunt (Judson Press)
“A cord of three strands is not quickly torn apart.” Adoniram Judson, the first U.S. Baptist missionary, was living proof of Ecclesiastes 4:12, even though he was wounded in just about every way imaginable.
“Bless God and take courage,” the Judsons' continually said as they faced trial after trial. Seasickness, homesickness, rare diseases, malnutrition, imprisonment, separation anxiety, hate, death of a newborn, danger and a multitude of strange varmints could not scare the Judsons out of Burma. This is an extraordinary adventure that will take Baptists back to our roots and call us to be faithful to our Lord's Great Commission, regardless of the cost.

BWA nominates evangelism and education director. The Baptist World Alliance has invited Fausto Aguiar de Vasconcelos, pastor of First Baptist Church in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to be director of evangelism and education/study and research through 2010. If approved by the BWA general council during the Centenary Baptist World Congress, July 26-31, in Birmingham, England, he will succeed Tony Cupit of Australia, who retires in July. Vasconcelos is chairman of the BWA executive committee on evangelism and education and president of the Brazilian Baptist Convention, a position he has held eight times. He also served a four-year term as president of the Union of Baptists in Latin America, comprised of Baptist conventions and organizations in 18 countries. He is a graduate of South Brazil Baptist Theological Seminary in Rio de Janeiro and earned master of divinity and doctor of philosophy degrees from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Correction. A story in the April 18 issue, "Former Muslim elected dean of seminary's college," incorrectly stated Ergun Caner recently was elected dean of Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va. He was elected the dean of the university's Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary.
Missouri lawsuit on hold. A second lawsuit involving the Missouri Baptist Convention and five affiliated institutions has been put on hold pending the outcome of an appeal in an earlier, similar lawsuit. At a hearing last month, a circuit judge decided to defer action on a lawsuit the Missouri Baptist Convention filed against Word & Way newspaper, Windermere Baptist Conference Center, the Missouri Baptist Foundation, Missouri Baptist University and the Baptist Home last October. However, the judge agreed to proceed with the institutions' motion to consider who has standing–or the legal right–to bring legal action on behalf of the convention. The Missouri Baptist Convention and five individuals filed the second lawsuit, even though another judge ruled in March 2004 that the convention's Executive Board and six affiliated churches did not have standing to file the original suit.

South Main Baptist Church received the R.C. Buckner Founder's Award for dedicated church service for its contributions to Buckner Children and Family Services and Buckner Orphan Care International. As a component to its community ministry, South Main partnered with Buckner to provide an after-school program for inner-city teenagers to enjoy recreation, tutoring and life skills training in a safe, adult-supervised environment.

Ken Hall presents a Founder's Award to Frank Chaney, a layman from First Baptist Church in Longview. Buckner President Ken Hall called the selection of South Main “a strong endorsement of a true ministry partner. In its 102 years of ministry, South Main Baptist Church members have been known for their incredible passion for service in the community. The congregation has a rich variety of ministries to groups such as internationals, the homebound elderly, cancer patients, and a food and clothing distribution center. It also partners with other community ministries to help the homeless and disadvantaged.”
