FamilyNet wins award. The FamilyNet original production of "We Shall Not Be Moved" received the golden Emmy statue for outstanding documentary program at the inaugural Lone Star Emmy Awards Gala Oct. 18 in Dallas. The one-hour documentary highlights the role the African-American church played in the Civil Rights Movement. Based in Fort Worth, FamilyNet is a 24-hour television network operated by the Southern Baptist Convention's North American Mission Board.
NCC taps Baptist. Shanta Premawardhana, a Baptist pastor and a leader in interfaith work in Chicago, has been elected by the National Council of Churches as its associate general secretary for interfaith relations and director of the NCC Interfaith Relations Commission. For the past 14 years, Premawardhana has been senior pastor of Ellis Avenue Church in Chicago. He is recognized for his leadership in building relationships across social boundaries that normally divide, for training people in interfaith dialogue and for helping Christians reflect on removing anti-Judaism from the pulpit. Premawardhana is vice president of the Alliance of Baptists
