WMU board approves objectives

___DALLAS--The Woman's Missionary Union of Texas board of directors approved a report from the organization's strategic direction committee Oct. 29 "to create an environment that enables individuals and churches to fulfill the Great Commission."

Worth presented the recommendation, which was adopted to be effective through October 2005 or until the board adopts another strategic direction.
___Objectives include:
Encourage hands-on missions experience for individuals, families and churches that develop a passion for sharing Christ.
Provide relevant missions education to diverse audiences through multiple delivery systems.
Develop missions leadership for the present and the future.
Promote strong missions support through prayer, giving and involvement.
Renew the image of WMU as a spiritually vibrant organization reaching the world for Christ.
Foster relationships with and among pastors, church staff, WMU leaders, other mission leadership and directors of various programs in churches and associations.
___Executive Director Carolyn Porterfield in her report reiterated a policy statement of Texas WMU, saying: "We will send missions promotional materials to any church that will call us, regardless of state convention affiliation. We don't ask a church which convention they are with."
___Three new members were elected to the nominating committee: Kaye Glazener of Fort Worth, Donna Hall of Paris and Shirley McDonald of Stephenville.
___Board members also approved a report from the program policy committee that CARGO, a coed meeting of seventh through 12th grade youth, be conducted Feb. 28-March 1, 2003, at Baylor University.
___They heard appeals for support of WorldTouch, an endowment exclusively for Texas WMU, and for Touch Tomorrow Today, a partnership fund for both Texas WMU and the Southern Baptist WMU.
___The board also announced a decision to recommend no salary increases for staff for the coming year, but to increase medical insurance support by 20 percent for current staff and seven retirees. The policy of no salary increases is in line with budget decisions made by the BGCT for its Executive Board staff.
